(1) The properties and strength of wood materials are different due to different directions. The angle acting on the direction of wood fibers during cutting is different, and the stress and failure load of the wood are also different, resulting in different chip shapes and workpiece surface quality. For example, when cutting along the grain, the material's advanced splitting occurs diagonally above the cutting edge, which is easy to bend and break, and the cutting surface is good; when the reverse grain cutting, the material's advanced splitting occurs diagonally below the cutting edge, which is not easy to break, and the cutting surface is poor. Due to the heterogeneity and anisotropy of wood, different cutting directions require cutters with different structures.
(2) The wood hardness is not high, the mechanical strength limit is low, and the separation is good.
(3) The heat resistance is poor, and the coking temperature (110-120ºC) cannot be exceeded during processing.
(4) Suitable for high-speed cutting: The wood cutting speed is generally 40-70m/s, up to 120m/s, and the speed of the general cutting shaft is 3000-12000r/min, up to 20000r/min. High-speed cutting makes the chips cut off by the cutter before they can be split along the fiber direction, and high geometric accuracy and surface roughness can be obtained.
(5) There are many factors that affect the cutting performance of wood. The physical and mechanical properties of different tree species are different. Tree species, density, moisture content, wood texture, fiber direction, annual rings, temperature, mechanical strength, etc. may produce different cutting power. consumption, or processing defects such as burrs occur. For example, literature [3] studies the effect of the transition area between earlywood and latewood and material density on cutting force through milling; literature [4] studies the effect of different wood microstructure and wood density on tool wear, and the analysis shows that wood There is no obvious linear relationship between quartz content and wood density and tool wear, and it is pointed out that the cutting edge wear rate cannot be explained by quartz content and size and density alone.
